We used Google Trends data to determine which type of BBQ smoker received the most interest in each state across the U.S.
Search interest is provided for other smoker types. This is available for each state
Electric and pellet smokers dominate the map.
Electric smokers are preferred by 73% of the states and the District of Columbia.
Pellet smokers are preferred by 37% of the states.
The average search interest for Americans nationwide is:
- Electric smokers – 44%
- Pellet smokers – 36%

Electric smokers are the most popular by far. They received the most search interest in a total of 36 states, including the District of Columbia.
Pellet smokers are the only other smoker type to be the top choice. They received the highest interest from Americans in the remaining 14 states.
And, even though none of the other smoker types are the most popular, there was a lot of interest in them.
